The Office of the Ombudsman consists of three members elected for terms of six years by the National Council on the basis of a triple proposal of the main committee. A single re-election is possible. During their terms of office, the members may not be part of either a provincial government or a general representative body. Neither may they exercise any other profession.
The Office of the Ombudsman examines irregularities in the area of federal administration on the basis of specific complaints from citizens and on its own initiative
